It was surprise to see Honduras fillet the USA U-23s in the semifinals, but Los Catrachos are deservedly through to the Brazil 2016 Olympic men's soccer tournament and may yet prove themselves capable of avenging the 2-1 loss inflicted upon them by Mexico in the group stage.
Honduran striker Alberth Elis is not unknown to soccer-watchers in this region, but he has surely advanced his reputation considerably with the two goals he put past the USA in the semifinal - goals his opponents were largely helpless to stop.
Similarly, 22-year-old 'keeper Luis Lopez had a memorable match for Honduras. He too could be destined for a club outside his home country before the Olympics roll around.
Count Mexico as firm favorite to win this Olympic qualifying tournament final. El Tri has beaten Los Catrachos once already in this competition. But an upset is not out of the question. And, on the Honduran side at least, there are more than a few players in this match who might find their way to MLS in the next few seasons.
