New York Red Bulls U-23s trampled Evergreen FC, 10-1 (not a typo), at the Evergreen Sportsplex on June 24.
The rout started in the sixth minute when Jose Aguinaga opened the scoring for RBNY. Fabio De Sousa tallied in the 10th minute, followed by Marcello Borges' first goal of the season for the U-23s in the 21st minute. Nine minutes later, U-23s' top-scorer Brian White made it 4-0; Zach Knudson added the fifth in the 36th minute, and White capped the first half with his second and the Red Bulls' sixth in the 41st minute.
Unsurprisingly, RBNY opted to sub out a number of starters at half-time - including White and 'keeper Ben Lundgaard. But the scoring spree was continued by Ethan Lochner and Knudson, who scored a second-half hat-trick.
With 10 goals scored by the 71st minute, the Red Bulls' job was emphatically done. Ethan Emmons scored a consolation goal for the hosts in the 76th minute.
Knudson finished the game with four goals to his name; White bagged two; Aguinaga, Borges, De Sousa, and Lochner each tallied one for RBNY.
The wild win keeps the U-23s at the top of the Mid Atlantic Division of PDL 2017. The team will stay on the road for its next game, against Jersey Express on June 28.
