And Not a Single Red Bull Was Taken On That Day
It's probably not a good sign that none of our players were even in the discussion to get picked up by the newly-"promoted" Montreal Impact and while there were a few surprises in this afternoon's expansion draft, none of them were that a Red Bull was taken.
Montreal picked Jeb Brovsky (Vancouver), Bobby Burling (San Jose), Brian Ching (Houston), Josh Gardner (Columbus), Justin Mapp (Philadelphia), Sanna Nyassi (Colorado), James Riley (Seattle), Seth Sinovic (Kansas City), Zarek Valentin (Chivas), Callen Warner (Real Salt Lake)
The surprises being Montreal taking Ching, even though Ching went on the record as saying he would retire rather than play for Montreal and the sequence that saw Riley get drafted from Seattle to Montreal, then shipped south to Chivas for Justin Braun, who, as I'm sure you remember, shredded the Red Bulls for a hat trick at Red Bull Arena earlier this year, and Gerson Mayen.
So no, "Hey, remember that time you played for us and then we didn't wan you anymore?" moment when the Bulls head up north next season. Not that any of this speaks to our organizational depth or anything.
UPDATE: The Impact also picked up Seattle defender Tyson Wahl in exchange for allocation money.

Was hoping for too much when I hoped someone would just take Ballouchy away.
Oh well.
