Hans Backe has gone for a 4-5-1 away from home again, with Heath Pearce making his first-ever RBNY at centerback, while Connor Lade returns to the starting XI at left midfield. Victor Pálsson will be the midfield anchor, with Lindpere and McCarty ahead of him. The Mighty Coops starts up top.

So this guy, Ismail Elfath

Has officiated one match in NASL as the center referee (Tampa at Atlanta on April 21) & was the 4th official for Dallas-Montreal April 14, and Seattle-Philadelphia May 4.

I’m all for bringing in new officials and all that with the Professional Refereeing Organization, but what makes this guy a candidate for an MLS job.

That’s all the professional refereeing he’s done all year.

What do you mean?

That the referees for a domestic league have to be from that country?

I mean, the USSF did lay down some promising groundwork with the PRO but the way I understood all that hoopla a couple months ago was that new officials would be bled in by working as the 4th official one week by being a center referee for NASL or USL-Pro, and then the next week being a linesman for MLS. Like a real concerted effort to get an official match experience while also acclimatizing him (or her, we’re openminded here) to the pace and style of MLS.

Plucking a guy who has only been in the officiating him in MLS twice and only refereed one professional match (d2) all year is not what was outlined in the PRO press release.

I am a bit torn on the trade, but that is only because I was dazzled by the skill and potential of Agudelo. It was hard not to get attached to a kid that grew up in NJ and was playing for the Red Bulls but we did really get a good return for him in the trade.

Playing against Chivas just got a lot more interesting.

If Agudelo wanted out, than I am glad we got something of real value in return for him.

I’m not a big fan of him (don’t hate him, but he’s not my favorite dude in the world).
But, during that halftime talk, he said that Heath Pearce is a good enough defender that he will push Henry and Cooper to stay sharp or even get better during training.

At times Messing’s voice really bothers me. Also, the fact that he posed nude at one point in his career is more than a little bit unsettling… but he is very spot-on with a lot of his opinions and analysis and you can tell he likes the team and wants it to succeed.

Elfath successfully managed an NASL match with the Atlanta Silverbacks. He only issued two yellow cards out of 29 total fouls. Pretty much every other Atlanta match has seen at least one red card.

That doesn’t necessarily mean he prevented the game from getting out of hand, but that’s literally the only officiating job he’s had all year. It’s the only thing we have to go by.

I knew there were more pieces involved, I just couldn’t remember what they were.

I really liked Tchani too.

I still have no idea what to think about Dax McCarty and his play. Perhaps because it is easier to judge offensive players on their productivity than defensive players with theirs.
