A few days ago, it was reported that the New York Red Bulls are not done signing Homegrown players this off-season. Brooke Tunstall of American Soccer Now is reporting that there are rumors at the MLS Combine the Red Bulls have reached a deal with college and former Academy star player Brandon Allen.
There were multiple rumors circulating here at the combine that Allen had reached a deal with Red Bull. However, both Curtis and Georgetown coach Brian Wiese denied those rumors to ASN.
"He's an NCAA player and it wouldn't be appropriate to comment on any negotiations but we haven't signed him," said Curtis. "But we're aware of him and when he turns pro we'll be interested and consider him."
The Old Bridge, N.J. native has 38 goals and 10 assists in his first three years of college soccer. He played for the U.S. Men's National Team at the U-18 and U-20 levels. Allen has been named an All-American twice and ranked first in the Big East in goals. He scored 118 goals in his high school career and led the Academy league in scoring in 2010-2011 with 28 goals.
Additionally, Tunstall says the Red Bulls didn't pursue potential top 10 pick Dan Metzger of Maryland due to the team's stacked midfield.
