New York Red Bulls U-23s have added Markus Fjortoft to their roster for PDL 2017.

The 23-year-old defender plays his college soccer for Duke. He is the son of former Norway international Jan Age Fjortoft.

Fjortoft was the Duke men's soccer team's Rookie of the Year in 2014. He has been a regular starter for the team since his freshman year.

RBNY's Sean Davis was a Duke player from 2011 to 2014. Mike Grella is also a Duke alum, playing for the college from 2005 to 2008. And former RBNY sporting director Ali Curtis was at Duke from 1997 to 2000, winning the Hermann Trophy in 1999.

Fjortoft joins current Duke teammate Brian White on the RBNY U-23 team for 2017. The roster currently numbers 25 players. Late additions (and subtractions) are not uncommon in PDL.

The U-23s play their first PDL game of the season on Saturday, May 20, at the Red Bull Training Facility. Kick-off is at 7:00 pm, Eastern. Admission is free.
