Report: The New York Red Bulls do have scheduled matches for preseason

More information is forthcoming about RBNY's preseason schedule for 2015...

David Manning-USA TODAY Sports

EmpireOfSoccer.com got Marc de Grandpre to say something that wasn't "this club is not for sale", achieving the rare feat of breaking two pieces of news with one story: the New York Red Bulls do have actual preseason friendlies scheduled (phew!) and the General Manager is not specifically assigned to managing the reaction to sale rumors.

The friendlies in question will be part of a tournament scheduled to be held at the IMG Academy between February 18 and February 28. The tournament's details have yet to be announced, but EOS's sources advise it will feature Toronto FC,, Philadelphia Union, Columbus CrewHB Koege of Denmark's First Division (the country's second tier), and the Costa Rica U-21 team.

This will be a relief to Costa Rica's U-21 team, since that is the line up of opponents it reported it will be facing a couple of days ago.

The Costa Rican football federation's report describes and eight-team tournament (with two teams yet to be named) which will divide itself into two groups of four: three games per team, per group and a final/consolation game would deliver four matches per team. This aligns with the information reported by EOS.

So we can now assume RBNY will be playing four games in the Bradenton leg of its preseason. The club had previously announced it would be in Bradenton from February 16 to March 1.

RBNY has also said it will be in Orlando from January 26 to February 6. No news yet on whether that trip will include any scheduled friendlies.
