On Saturday night, the United States U-23 team defeated the Cuba U-23s 6-1 to book an early spot in the semifinals of CONCACAF Olympic qualifying for Rio 2016. After Cameron Carter-Vickers scored in the 17th minute, New York Red Bulls defenseman Matt Miazga scored one of his own in the 36th minute. It would prove to be the game winning goal even though the US were up 6-0 until stoppage. Jerome Kiesewetter scored a goal in each half to match Jordan Morris' effort against Canada.
The US can secure the number one seed from Group A with any points gained from their final group match with Panama on October 6th. Now that the US is guaranteed a semifinal match and either the Finals or a Third Place match, Miazga will miss RBNY's next two games against Montreal and Toronto.
