Bad news, guys. Former United States Men's National Team and Los Angeles Galaxy player Landon Donovan does not want to play for the New York Red Bulls.
Donovan appeared on The Dan Patrick Show to talk about the USWNT's win over Germany as well as his tweet about Abby Wambach. Naturally, the witty repartee turned to his retirement and whether he is tempted to start playing again. Here's the relevant, Red Bulls-centric part of the enthralling dialogue.
Dan Patrick: "Go to the Red Bulls."
Landon Donovan: "No thank you."
Dan Patrick: "Alright."
Well, put down the phone, Ali Curtis. Get rid of all potential formation ideas involving Landon Donovan, Jesse Marsch. Put away that "Welcome back, Landon!" tifo, supporters' groups of the South Ward. There goes the Red Bulls' hopes for winning MLS Cup this season because our savior isn't showing up to save the season. Landon Donovan is retired and he isn't coming back to help you.
Here's the context if you're interested.
Fun, awful, random story. One time I was staying at the same hotel as the Los Angeles Galaxy and I happened to be using the business center at the same time as Landon Donovan. I asked him if he would stop scoring on the Red Bulls. He laughed and said, "No." And... that's the end of my story.
"Cool story. Nobody cares."
Thanks.
P.S.: Crazy how the Red Bulls are the first team that Dan Patrick names off the top of his head. Maybe he's secretly a fan.
