Sky Blue FC triumphs over Houston Dash in week 6

Week 6 sees SBFC stay perfect at home.

Week 6 of the NWSL Season brought Sky Blue FC (3-2-1, 10 Points) its third win of the season, keeping their perfect record at home and its ninth consecutive positive contest outcome against the Houston Dash (2-4-0 6 Points) and ranking Sky Blue FC at number two in the league. We saw the return of Christie Pearce and Kelley O’Hara to the starting XI.

Sky Blue FC was the first on the board in the 20th minute when Sarah Killion took a penalty kick and nailed it into the back of the net. The penalty was awarded after a ball came off the foot of Sam Kerr was sent to Raquel Rodriguez, who was taken down by Houston Dash midfielder, Amber Brooks.

Houston gained their single goal in the 40th minute where Andressinha fired a shot towards the left post. She quickly collected the rebound and found the back of the net to bring the score to 1-1. Kelly O’Hara and Sam Kerr nearly grabbed the lead back at the 68th minute with a cross from O’Hara which Kerr headed into the area of the goal, but the ball was saved by Lydia Williams.

Sky Blue FC did take the lead in the final minutes when Leah Galton took the free kick attempt, crossed to Daphne Corboz, who passed it along to Rodriguez who finished it up, making the final score 2-1 and giving Sky Blue FC the win and three points.

“We have been stressing the importance of establishing a winning culture at home. We want to make Yurcak Field a very difficult place for our opponents to come play. With the attitude and ability that this team compiles together, we are very excited about what we can do over the remainder of the season for our fans,” said Sky Blue FC Head Coach, Christy Holly, about having a perfect record at home.
