New York Red Bulls U-23s' Sean Teixeira makes PDL 2017 Team of Week 4

And Ben Lundgaard and Brian White get honorable mentions this week.

The New York Red Bulls U-23s are off to a flying start in PDL 2017, opening up with three straight wins - three in seven days, in point of fact. The team has beaten Reading United (3-2 on May 20), Jersey Express (2-0 on May 24), and Ocean City Nor'easters (3-1 on May 27) to rise to the top of the Mid Atlantic Division in the Eastern Conference.

All those games were at home, so next up is a string of away-days as the schedule balances out. The PDL season is a test of depth: RBNY's U-23s will play eight games in June. The constant flow of games can require teams to do a fair amount of squad rotation, further complicating any player's ability to stand out from the crowd in a 72-team league.

So when a player does get special mention from PDL, it's quite a big deal. And when that player is a full back, who hasn't done anything statistically outlandish like score a hat-trick of hat-tricks, it is perhaps a bigger deal. All of which is to say, congratulations to RBNY U-23s full-back Sean Teixeira: the RBNY Academy product and current Villanova player made the official PDL 2017 Team of Week 4 for his performances against Jersey Express and Ocean City Nor'easters.

Teixeira tallied one assist in Week 4 - against the Nor'easters - but, more significantly, contributed 179 minutes over both games, as his team completed a double-game week with back-to-back victories by an aggregate score of 5-1.

On the honorable mentions list for Week 4, RBNY U-23's 'keeper Ben Lundgaard and goal-a-game top-scorer Brian White make an appearance. It is White's second consecutive appearance in PDL TotW chatter: he got an honorable mention in Week 3 (RBNY U-23s only started their season in Week 3 of PDL 2017, so the absence of the team's players from the first two weeks of all-league honors is not a reflection of anything but their inactivity in that time).

The U-23s are back in action on Saturday, June 3, against FA Euro New York at Belson Stadium. Kick-off is at 7:30 pm.
