Rumor: Diego Forlan to join Atletico Kolkata in Indian Super League

There was a rumor linking Uruguay legend Diego Forlan to Indian Super League's Atletico Kolkata last year - the former Manchester United and Atletico Madrid forward was playing for Cerezo Osaka in Japan at the time, and understood to be seeking a new club.

Forlan landed at Penarol - the Uruguayan club his father played for and that he supports - instead. No sooner had Forlan left Penarol, then the Atletico Kolkata rumor returned, for no better reason - it would seem - than the 37-year-old was once again in the market for a team.

The rumor mill has since gone on to link Forlan to many teams, including the New York Red Bulls. The most recent whisper suggested Liga MX's Necaxa might be interested.

Not to be left out, the Kolkata rumor has reasserted itself, returning in a sudden flurry of social media interest:
