We don't normally pay great attention to Top Drawer Soccer's College Goal of the Week competition, largely because there isn't often a New York Red Bulls' connection. But TDS has included RBNY Academy product Derrick Etienne in its latest ballot. (Start at 2:13 on the video below.)
Vote for that! Vote for Derrick!
Etienne is playing his college soccer for the University of Virginia, which has recruited heavily from the Red Bull Academy - Malcolm Dixon and Wesley Wade are also part of UVA's freshman class this year. Senior Scott Thomsen played for the RBNY U23s in PDL this year, and was part of the 2014 RBNY U23 squad that won the NPSL championship in 2014.
UVA has just lost its first game of the season - a 3-1 loss at Notre Dame. It plays again on September 29, against George Washington University.
Etienne has made eight appearances (four starts) to date for the Cavaliers. His goal against VCU - the one nominated by TDS this week - was his first for his college team. Vote for it!
